RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2017

There was no outlook written for Travis Lakins.

2016

Lakins, 21, was a sixth-round draft pick in 2015 out The Ohio State University. He's got a repeatable delivery with a three-pitch mix -- a 91-93 mph fastball, a 75-76 mph curveball, and an 83-86 mph change up -- all of which are potential plus offerings. The lean left-hander has some room to add weight, which could improve his velocity a few ticks. His greatest need at this point is to improve his command and control of the fastball. At this point, he'll be on a starter's track. He threw one inning at the Gulf Coast League and one inning at Short-Season Lowell in 2015. We expect him to remain in extended spring training with a placement to Lowell or Low-A Greenville.
