Shamet (foot) will not be fully cleared to practice until early November, CBS Sports reports.

Shamet missed the majority of the 2015-16 season with a foot injury, so there should be some concern about the redshirt sophomore's availability going forward. He had surgery in late July and will be an important piece for coach Gregg Marshall if he can regain his health. If Shamet is not ready for the season, Austin Reaves could get more playing time.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet broke his foot and will have surgery on Monday, Matt Norlander of CBS Sports reports.

This is Shamet's second foot injury of his career, but there is hope that he'll be able to start the season as originally expected. He'll be on crutches for 6-to-8 weeks before returning to action. Shamet was the Shockers second-leading scorer last season with 11.2 PPG and converted 44.6 percent of his three-pointers.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet had a game-high 20 points (7-14 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 4-5 FT) across 34 minutes in Sunday's NCAA Tournament loss to Kentucky.

Shamet's second-year campaign with the Shockers was far from disappointing, as the 20-year-old averaged two three-pointers made per contest, converting them at a 44.6 percent clip. Following his redshirt season, Shamet really stepped up big as a starter, finishing the year as the team's second-leading scorer at 11.2 PPG. It may not have been enough to lead the underseeded Shockers to the Sweet Sixteen, but he'll have plenty more chances to play under the spotlight, as Wichita State will return all five starters in 2017-18.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet put up an efficient 14 points (5-11 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), and added one rebound, one assist, and one block against Illinois State on Sunday.

Shamet ended the regular season averaging 11.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. Although he's never been an explosively high-scoring player, he's been very consistent, and has put up double-digit points in well over half of his games this season. Shamet is also leading his team in assists so far this year, and that will be a great asset for the Shockers as we move into the NCAA tournament.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet had 11 points (3-7 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five assists and two rebounds across 33 minutes in Tuesday's 82-65 victory over Evansville.

Shamet has now reached double figures in eight straight games, posting averages of 14.3 PPG and 4.4 APG over that stretch. The redshirt freshman averages a team-high 3.3 assists per contest on the season, compared to just 1.0 turnovers each outing. Coach Greg Marshall runs a deep rotation, but Shamet also leads the way in minutes played for the Shockers, as he's the only player on the floor for more than 25 minutes per game on average.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet had a career-best 16 points (6-7 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 0-2 FT) to go along with three rebounds and three assists in Sunday's victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Shamet has yet to see more than 22 minutes this season, but much of this can be attributed to a relatively soft non-conference schedule (coach Gregg Marshall used 11 reserves Sunday). Once the going gets tougher, Shamet and junior backcourt mate Conner Frankamp should see their usage ramped up.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet (concussion) played well in a scrimmage versus Oral Roberts on Saturday, Jeff Goodman of ESPN reports.

After suffering a concussion in late September, it was unclear the Shockers would get their freshman guard ready for the season. Last season, he scored 26 points in just 59 minutes of play before receiving a medical redshirt for surgery from a stress fracture in his foot. Now, Shamet seems to be a strong addition to a backcourt that lost its best player, Ron Baker, to the Knicks.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet has been out for the last couple of weeks due to a concussion, Paul Suellentrop of the Wichita Eagle reports.

Shamet currently has no clear timetable for return, but will likely be back before the start of the season. He's also returning from an ankle surgery he received early in the season last year. The 6-foot-4 guard is expected to have an increased role in the backcourt this season following the departures of Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker.
