RotoWire Fantasy Analysis
Calderwood will face Bec Rawlings in a flyweight matchup at UFC Fight Night 121 on November 18 in Sydney, Australia.
Calderwood and Rawlings have both beaten Seohee Ham via unanimous decision and both dropped their last two matches to tough opponents. JoJo has recently suffered losses to Jessica Andrade and Cynthia Calvillo. While she is throwing a high quantity of significant strikes (6.28 per minute), she hasn't been making them count lately. Calderwood maintains an 11-3 record (3-3 UFC) with five KO/TKOs.

Fantasy AnalysisWhen Bruce Buffer announced Calvillo as the winner, the Scottish crowd did not like the decision. Calderwood appeared to be game in this fight, but she was not very effective. She was nearly finished at the end of both the first and last round. On the feet, she was very active, but she simply missed too many of her strikes. Throwing volume is almost never a bad idea in MMA. However, she need to use those misses to follow up with landed strikes. Calderwood will still be a tough gatekeeper in the strawweight division, and she might move up to flyweight when the UFC adds the division.
Fantasy AnalysisCalderwood will enter the Octagon after suffering a loss to Jessica Andrade (submission-guillotine choke), one of the UFC's top strawweights, in September. She lands an incredible 6.92 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.65. The fighter's 11-2 record (3-2 UFC) shows her to be a striker with her only two losses suffered through submissions.
Fantasy AnalysisJoJo had zero answer for the brute strength of the Brazilian. She found herself planted on her back on multiple occasions shortly after the opening bell and although Calderwood made a valiant effort to get back to her feet, she was unable to get Andrade off of her. Calderwood entered the UFC with a perfect 8-0 record in December 2014, but she is just 3-2 in her first five fights with the company. She's a top-ten strawweight, but not top-five caliber.
Fantasy AnalysisIn what was her most impressive effort as a member of the UFC roster, JoJo easily rolled through former title challenger Valerie Letourneau in June. She is still looking to put together a string of solid performances, but the Letourneau fight was a good start. Calderwood could crack the top-five with an impressive win over Andrade.
Fantasy AnalysisCalderwood most recently defeated Valerie Letourneau to raise her record to 11-1 via third-round knockout -- a fight in which she was considered the underdog. "Jojo" began her professional career by rattling off nine wins in a row before losing to Maryna Moroz by submission in April 2015, but has now won two fights in a row. She has won all of her fights by either knockout or decision, while Andrade has won six bouts by submission, so Calderwood will need to stay out of situations where she's vulnerable to submissions if she wants to beat the younger but more experienced Andrade. Their bout will be fought at 115 pounds according to Jim Edwards of the Daily Mirror.
Fantasy AnalysisCalderwood got snubbed out of a bonus after impressively knocking out Valerie Letourneau in the third round of their fight on Saturday during UFC Fight Night 89. She expressed her disappointment on social media and hinted she would need to find work outside of the UFC, but UFC president Dana White responded by giving her the bonus she desired and signed her to a new contract. Calderwood has now improved her professional record to 11-1-0.
Fantasy AnalysisIt looks like the move to TriStar worked wonders for Calderwood. Typically a very slow starter, JoJo came out aggressive on the feet in Round 1 -- something that is ironic in itself considering the typical passive style of most TriStar fighters. The end result was Calderwood putting a thorough beating on Letourneau for the nearly 13 minutes that the fight last. JoJo is one of the several fighters who should be hoping the UFC adopts a women's flyweight division. She has trouble making the weight cut to strawweight and she would be too undersized to be successful at bantamweight. She has the tools to be a top-five fighter if the UFC ever adds a 125-pound women's division.
Fantasy AnalysisYes, this fight is taking place at flyweight, and no, the UFC does not officially have a women's flyweight division. After 15 months and two back-to-back mediocre performances, Calderwood’s status as a legitimate threat in the women’s strawweight division is hanging by a thread. Calderwood was shockingly submitted by a debuting Maryna Moroz for her first career loss last April. She returned to earn a unanimous decision win over Cortney Casey in July, but it was an uneven effort from JoJo to say the least. Calderwood has considerably more talent as a fighter than Letourneau, but her recent string of poor efforts combined with the fact she is fighting in enemy territory makes her a dicey play on Saturday night. There is no telling how Calderwood will react in what is without a doubt the most important fight of her career.
Fantasy AnalysisCalderwood was originally scheduled to take on Paige VanZant at UFC Fight Night on Dec. 10, but had to drop out from the fight due to an undisclosed injury. She now appears to be considering a career move in an effort to become a more dynamic fighter, and the esteemed gym could very well help her achieve that. Tristar is home to former champions Georges St-Pierre and Kenny Florian, as well as current big names such as Rory McDonald, Joseph Duffy and Sage Northcutt. The move doesn't guarantee anything for the No. 8-ranked strawweight fighter, but it would certainly put her on the right track.
Fantasy AnalysisRose Namajunas will replace Calderwood. No information has been released in regards to the injury Calderwood suffered. Calderwood's last fight was a unanimous decision win over Cortney Casey in July in her native Scotland.
Fantasy AnalysisCalderwood has had some rough moments in her last two fights (a submission loss to Maryna Moroz and a unanimous decision win over Cortney Casey), but she is easily a top-ten strawweight. JoJo is going to be a considerable underdog for this one, but this is by no means a cake walk for VanZant. It is pretty much a no-lose situation for Calderwood. She gets a main event assignment and a chance to knock off the popular PVZ.
Fantasy AnalysisIt was a heck of a fight. Calderwood was in trouble early, but she rebounded and was in control for the final two rounds. Realizing that Casey was exhausted towards the end of the fight, Calderwood repeatedly allowed her to get back to her feet and then unloaded with strikes. It was a very nice bounce back effort after her first professional loss to Maryna Moroz in her last fight in April. "JoJo" is easily a top-10 strawweight.
Fantasy AnalysisCasey have just five professional bouts under her belt (4-1 record) and she hasn't fought anyone of note. Calderwood badly needs to win this fight and in impressive fashion. She suffered her first professional loss in April against Maryna Moroz.
Fantasy AnalysisCalderwood suffered her first professional loss, a shocking submission defeat to Maryna Moroz in her last fight in April. Despite being a gigantic betting favorite (-565), Calderwood fell by submission in the very first round. She will hope for better things against Rawlings in her native Scotland in July.
