Injury News Updates:

English Premier League (EPL)

Major League Soccer (MLS)

Jermaine Jones    M    Los Angeles Galaxy
Jones has been ruled out for Wednesday's match against the Crew because of a toe injury, according to Adam Serrano of the team's official website. "Jermaine still has stitches, and it was located in a place where it was tough to keep wound closed. The feeling is that he needs another day or two," head coach Sigi Schmid said.

Fantasy Analysis

Jones' absence is a hit to the Galaxy's midfield, though the recent addition of Jonathan dos Santos will help fill the void.
Giovani dos Santos    F/M    Los Angeles Galaxy
Dos Santos (hamstring) did not travel for Wednesday's match against the Crew, according to Adam Serrano of the team's official website. "Gio is carrying a hamstring [injury], and we didn't feel that he'll be ready for Wednesday. We think he'll be ready for Sunday," head coach Sigi Schmid said.

Fantasy Analysis

Dos Santos' absence is a hit to the Galaxy's attack, though he's been a fairly weak fantasy option given his history of success. The Galaxy will likely rely heavily on Gyasi Zardes to lead their attack in Columbus, with Jack McInerney possibly getting a start too.
Joevin Jones    D    Seattle Sounders FC
Jones left the Sounders without authorization to join up with the Trinidad and Tobago national team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers, the Seattle Times reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Jones was reportedly set to leave after the Sounders two games this week (Wednesday at Vancouver and Sunday against Portland), but he left on his own accord, leaving a massive hole in the lineup. Nouhou Tolo is expected to start in Jones' absence.
Steve Birnbaum    D    D.C. United
Birnbaum left Saturday's 1-0 win at Colorado early with a possible concussion. He missed Monday's training and was being evaluated, according to coach Ben Olsen.

Fantasy Analysis

This is something worth monitoring as Birnbaum has been one of the few consistent players in the back for D.C. this season. Even with a nice run of home fixtures next, they won't be as favorable without Birnbaum in back.
A.J. DeLaGarza    D    Houston Dynamo
DeLaGarza committed one foul and picked up a yellow card in stoppage time of Saturday's 2-1 loss at Vancouver.

Fantasy Analysis

DeLaGarza will miss Wednesday's Texas Derby at FC Dallas due to yellow card accumulation.
Juan David Cabezas    M    Houston Dynamo
Cabezas committed four fouls and up a yellow card in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Vancouver.

Fantasy Analysis

Cabezas will miss Wednesday's Texas Derby at FC Dallas due to yellow card accumulation.
Lamar Neagle    M    Seattle Sounders FC
Neagle is not in the 18-man squad for Sunday's match against Minnesota because of a left ankle sprain.

Fantasy Analysis

Neagle's absence is a blow to the Sounders' depth, though he was unlikely to start even if fully fit, so his injury shouldn't affect many fantasy decisions.
Marcelo Silva    D    Real Salt Lake
Silva was subbed off early due to a thigh injury Saturday against Montreal.

Fantasy Analysis

It was quite a blow for RSL to see Silva, who was shaping up as a good centerback partner for Justen Glad. The injury was initially listed as tightness in his thigh, but with RSL playing at home against San Jose on Wednesday, it may be difficult for Silva to be fit on short rest this week.
Harrison Afful    D    Columbus Crew
Afful got a straight red card late Saturday against Orlando.

Fantasy Analysis

Afful was the latest victim of VAR as he was retroactively awarded a red card for violent conduct. Afful will miss Columbus's next match at home against LA Galaxy on Wednesday.
Will Johnson    M    Orlando City SC
Johnson was subbed off early due to a shin injury Saturday against Columbus.

Fantasy Analysis

Johnson has been a consistent, if unspectacular, source of regular points for fantasy owners who have relied on him for value in the midfield. Orlando's midfield has become crowded with recent transfer additions, so keep an eye on whether this injury presages an extended run on the bench for Johnson. Orlando plays Vancouver at home on Saturday.
Ilsinho    M    Philadelphia Union
Ilsinho (groin) is not in the 18-man lineup Saturday against San Jose.

Fantasy Analysis

Ilsinho has been dealing with a sports hernia, and will not be able to play Saturday. He will possibly return Wednesday against Toronto.
Taylor Kemp    D    D.C. United
Kemp (hip) is not in the 18-man lineup Saturday against Colorado.

Fantasy Analysis

Kemp returned to training this week, but was not healthy enough to make an appearance in the lineup.
Matt Polster    M/D    Chicago Fire
Polster (knee) is not in the 18-man lineup Saturday against Toronto.

Fantasy Analysis

Polster is missing his second straight match with the knee injury, despite his injury being considered not serious.
Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla    M    Montreal Impact
Tabla (neck) is not in the 18-man lineup Saturday against Real Salt Lake.

Fantasy Analysis

Tabla will miss his second straight match with a throat infection, but could return for next Sunday's match against Toronto.
Hernan Bernardello    M    Montreal Impact
Bernadello (undisclosed) is not in the 18-man lineup Saturday against Real Salt Lake.

Fantasy Analysis

Bernadello was questionable going into Saturday after training earlier in the week, but he was unable to recover enough to make it in the lineup.
Aurelien Collin    D    New York Red Bulls
Colllin was subbed off in the 23rd minute of Friday's match against Portland due to a foot injury .

Fantasy Analysis

It was a tough blow for Collin's fantasy owners, who had just gotten him back from a prior injury. Collin's absence will be a very tough blow for the Red Bulls, who have been incredibly inconsistent this season.
Larrys Mabiala    D    Portland Timbers
Mabiala picked up a straight red card late Sunday against the Red Bulls.

Fantasy Analysis

It has been something of a rough start for Mabiala in MLS. In the six matches he has started Portland has given up four goals twice and he has been red carded in a third match. He hasn't looked bad, but it has not been a start that will motivate many fantasy owners to consider him.
Ian Harkes    M    D.C. United
Harkes returned to light training this week and remains day-to-day with an ankle injury, reports MLS contributor Emily Olsen.

Fantasy Analysis

Harkes has missed the last two matches and with D.C. bringing in some new talent, his spot in the starting XI may be gone upon his return to fitness. It should be another week or two before that happens, though.
Brandon Vincent    D    Chicago Fire
Vincent (quad) hasn't returned to training after suffering a quad injury three weeks ago, reports Orrin Schwarz of the Daily Herald.

Fantasy Analysis

Vincent has been replaced ably by Patrick Doody in the last few matches, though that hasn't produced results with three road losses. Once Vincent returns, he'll likely return to the starting XI.
Niko Hansen    F/M    Columbus Crew
Hansen (groin) was limited in training Thursday and is unlikely to feature in Saturday's match against Orlando, reports Columbus Crew correspondent Patrick Murphy.

Fantasy Analysis

Hansen hasn't played much this season, and even when he does return he likely won't have much fantasy value unless he finds a spot in the starting XI on a consistent basis.
Matt Van Oekel    G    Real Salt Lake
Van Oekel (ankle) will play a match with USL affiliate, the Monarchs, before making his way back to the senior squad, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

Fantasy Analysis

Van Oekel is simply a backup goalie for RSL, so his fantasy value is very low unless Nick Rimando misses out.
Demar Phillips    D    Real Salt Lake
Phillips (hamstring) ran in training this past week but is still a week or two away from returning to full participation, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

Fantasy Analysis

Phillips has missed the last four matches with this injury and is slowly losing his spot in the starting XI. Once he returns, Real Salt Lake will be close to full strength in the back.
Patrick Nyarko    F/M    D.C. United
Nyarko has missed the last three matches due to a concussion and is likely to miss at least one or two more, reports The Washington Post.

Fantasy Analysis

Concussions and eye injuries are tricky things and that's evident with Nyarko. With D.C. bringing in multiple new players, Nyarko's spot in the starting XI may be a thing of the past once he returns.
Deshorn Brown    F    D.C. United
Brown picked up a concussion last match and will miss Saturday's game at Colorado, reports The Washington Post.

Fantasy Analysis

Brown has appeared in every match for D.C. that he's been available in, but he has just two goals in those nine games.
Andre Blake    G    Philadelphia Union
Blake got stitches out of his hand this week and is set to return for Wednesday's match against Toronto, reports Jonathan Tannenwald of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Fantasy Analysis

John McCarthy will get another start in net at San Jose this Saturday, which will be a tough spot for the Union as a whole.
Marco Farfan    D    Portland Timbers
Farfan (ankle) practiced on the side with a trainer earlier this week, reports Jamie Goldberg of The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

Farfan isn't a regular starter, but if the Timbers can get him back, that'd add depth to a back line that's struggling. Portland doesn't have a clean sheet in its last 11 matches.
Je-Vaughn Watson    M/D    New England Revolution
Watson will miss Sunday's match against NYC FC after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last week against Vancouver.

Fantasy Analysis

Watson picked up the clean sheet, but also added a yellow card, which he's had a problem with in limited time this season. The Revs have a few options to use like Chris Tierney and Joshua Smith in the back, but in a tough spot, a clean sheet isn't likely.
Joao Meira    D    Chicago Fire
Meira made it just four minutes in Wednesday's 3-0 loss against Montreal before coming up with what looked like a pulled muscle.

Fantasy Analysis

Christian Dean came on for the Fire in what was a tough match for the road team. Dean could be in the starting XI next match against Toronto, but a clean sheet will be tough to come by.
Jake Gleeson    G    Portland Timbers
Gleeson (hamstring) is doubtful for Friday's match against the Red Bulls, reports Jamie Goldberg of The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

Gleeson was replaced by Jeff Attinella early last match and that'll likely be the case again. Still, Portland doesn't have a clean sheet in its last 11 matches.
Fanendo Adi    F    Portland Timbers
Adi (hamstring) is doubtful for Friday's match against the Red Bulls, according to Jamie Goldberg of the Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

Adi was replaced by Darren Mattocks last match as the Timbers couldn't find the back of the net until the final minutes. No matter who gets the start up front for Portland, they'll be hard to trust, even at home.
Liam Ridgewell    D    Portland Timbers
Ridgewell will remain out with his quad injury for at least another week, according to Jamie Goldberg of The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

Ridgewell has played just one of the last 11 matches, so his absence won't be anything new. The Timbers have struggled mightily to hold any opponent down, without a clean sheet in the last 11 games.
