Current Closer: Archie Bradley

(1/31): Following the offseason departure of Fernando Rodney, who signed a one-year contract with the Twins after saving 39 games last season, the Diamondbacks' closing situation is unsettled. The top candidate to fill the ninth-inning void is Bradley, who found his calling as a high-leverage reliever in 2017. With an upper-90s fastball and an improved ability to find the strike zone, Bradley profiles as a dominant end-game option and would warrant a roster spot in most formats even if he doesn't secure the closing gig.

Bradley's top challenger for the back end of the bullpen is likely Boxberger, who was acquired in November from the Rays. While he's struggled to stay healthy the last two seasons, Boxberger seemed to find his form in September while with the Rays and should enter spring training at full strength. Given that he saved 41 games for the Rays in 2015, Boxberger's prior experiencing in the closing role may help his chances of winning the gig over Bradley.

The 33-year-old Hirano also brings closing experience from his time in Japan the last five seasons, but he'll likely have to settle for setup work in his first foray in the majors. Hirano doesn't offer premium velocity, but controls his pitches well and has excelled at generating groundballs, which should allow him to find success on the other side of the Pacific.

Sherfy only has 10.2 big-league innings to his name, but was exceptional in that small sample and quickly rose in the Diamondbacks' bullpen pecking order. Prior to his second-half promotion, he shined as the closer for Triple-A Reno and offers plenty of intrigue due to the gaudy strikeout rates he delivered in the minors.
