RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2018

There was no outlook written for Alfredo Gonzalez.

2017

In 2015, Gonzalez broke out at the plate in the Astros system, finishing his age-22 season with Double-A Corpus Christi after starting the year at Low-A Quad Cities thanks to a batting average north of .300 at each stop. His hitting numbers took a nosedive at the beginning of 2016, though, as he put up an abysmal .158/.236/.205 slash line in 44 games with the Hooks. This led to his being booted off Houston's 40-man roster. However, he was swiped up by the White Sox just a week later, and turned things around by batting .296 in 39 games after that. The 24-year-old even brought his strikeout rate below 15 percent while walking 6.6 percent of the time, helping him make the jump to Triple-A at the end of the season. Gonzalez's solid 2015 campaign and turnaround in 2016 could help him lock up a job at Triple-A, although his long-term outlook isn't great given his lackluster prospect status and the fact that top prospect Zack Collins is the heir-apparent to the White Sox catching duties once he's ready for prime time.
