Newkirk (knee) dropped 21 points in just 20 minutes during Saturday's loss to Toledo.

Newkirk's 20 minutes of action is probably indicative of the team being cautious in his return to the lineup. We fully expect Newkirk to play around 30 minutes per game once at full health after averaging 33.7 minutes a season ago.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Newkirk (knee) is considered a game-day decision for Saturday's opener against Toledo, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Newkirk was fully cleared for a return to practice about a week ago and while that was certainly encouraging, the Hawks still aren't ready to clear him to play. He'll likely test out the knee during pregame warmups Saturday before an official decision is made on his availability, so continue to monitor Newkirk up until tip off.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Newkirk (knee) has been fully cleared to practice, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

It was reported just over a week ago that Newkirk was expected to miss the start of the 2017-18 season while finishing up his recovery from a torn ACL, though the fact that he's returning to practice now provides some optimism that he'll be back sooner rather than later. The regular-season opener is slated for Nov. 11 against Toledo, so Newkirk will have just over a week to get his conditioning in order and make sure there's no lingering soreness in his knee. Still, it wouldn't be surprising if he was eased into the action after a serious injury, so there's certainly a chance he misses a few games to start the year. For now, consider Newkirk questionable for the opener.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Newkirk (knee) will miss the start of the 2017-18 season as he continues to progress from last year's ACL injury, The Providence Journal's Bill Koch reports.

There doesn't appear to be a set timetable for Newkirk's return, but the guard should be able to return to the court sometime within the near future as he's been participating in non-contact work since early October. The flip side is that he hasn't been allowed to partake in any full-contact activities, signaling that he just isn't ready for game action at this point.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Newkirk (knee) remains without a timetable for a return to full-contact activities, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Newkirk was cleared for non-contact work in early-October, but remains on the sidelines when the team progresses to five-on-five drills and scrimmages. He currently doesn't have a timetable for a return, which would seemingly put his status in jeopardy for the team's Nov. 11 opener against Toledo. The senior averaged 20.3 points across 12 games before tearing his ACL in January, and is expected to be a key contributor upon his return. Until that happens, looks for Nick Robinson to handle the point guard duties, while senior wing James Demery (14.5 PPG) takes on most of the scoring.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Newkirk (knee) has been cleared to participate in non-contact drills, but remains on the sidelines in full team activities, Jon Rothstein of Fanrag Sports reports.

It's a step in the right direction for the guard following a December ACL tear, but Newkirk still has several steps to go before taking the court in full capacity with his teammates. His status for the team's Nov. 11 opener against Toledo remains up in the air.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Newkirk (knee) has progressed to doing running and conditioning, but still has no timetable for return, Jon Rothstein of CBS reports.

Newkirk suffered an ACL injury during a game against George Washington in December, and is still recovering. It's promising that he's begun to get conditioned but that doesn't mean he's anywhere near being full strength. There will likely be more updates on Newkirk's status before the beginning of the season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

St. Joseph's coach Phil Martelli said that Newkirk (knee) has resumed light running and some basketball workouts, but remains without a timetable for full clearance, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Newkirk is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last December in a game against George Washington, and though it sounds like he's making progress, he could still be limited when the Hawks resume practicing in the fall. Once he reclaims full health, Newkirk will likely reemerge as a focal point of the St. Joseph's offense after averaging 20.3 points and 1.6 three-pointers per game last season prior to going down with the injury.
