Shamet had 17 points (5-7 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two assists and two rebounds across 17 minutes in Friday's victory over UMKC.

Shamet has been limited by a stress fracture in his right foot for the majority of the offseason, so it was an encouraging sign for Shockers fans to see him start in the opener. He was used conservatively, however, as Shamet was the only starter to not surpass 20 minutes on the court. The Shockers will draw College of Charleston on Monday night, and although Shamet appears healthy enough to play, he could be limited yet again as a precaution. Coach Gregg Marshall used a rotation featuring 14 players Friday, and if the team gets a comfortable lead, a similar strategy could be employed. The team heads to California next Monday for their toughest non-conference matchup yet, so getting Shamet as close to 100 percent as possible will undoubtedly be a priority.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet (foot) will be available for Friday's opener against Missouri-Kansas City, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reports.

Shamet has been plagued by a stress fracture in his right foot since July, but he apparently did his due diligence in the offseason to be ready for when it really matters. The junior guard is poised for an even bigger season than last year when he posted averages of 11.4 points and 3.3 assists over 36 starts.

Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall said Shamet (foot) won't play in the team's exhibition Monday against Newman, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Shamet has been sidelined since July with a stress fractured in his right foot, the second time in his collegiate career that he's dealt with a significant foot injury. With the guard having yet to resume practicing in full capacity and the regular-season opener against Missouri-Kansas City on tap Friday, it looks as though the Shockers may have to get by without Shamet, who averaged 11.4 points, 3.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 treys in 26.7 minutes per game in 2016-17.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Coach Gregg Marshall told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports that Shamet (foot) has yet to resume practicing.

It's unclear if Shamet has suffered a setback, because the original plan was for the redshirt sophomore to resume light practice drills last week. With the regular season opener just 11 days away, it's now fair to question Shamet's availability. The team hopes to ease him back in before the weekend, but it's unlikely that will leave him enough time to progress to full game speed. Should he be unable to go, Austin Reaves and Conner Frankamp would be forced to take on extra ball handling responsibilities. The Shockers draw road Power-5 matchups against California and Baylor in their first five games, so they cannot afford to wait too long on last season's second-leading scorer. The leading scorer from the 2016-17 campaign, Markis McDuffie, is projected to be sidelined until December due to a stress fracture, leaving coach Gregg Marshall without his key weapons during a tough non-conference schedule.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet is set to resume "light" practice participation Thursday, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reports.

Shamet underwent surgery to repair a broken foot in late-July, and his estimated timetable had suggested a November return. Wednesday's news falls right in line with that approximation, as Shamet will return to practice, but likely not participate in full contact drills for at least another week. The team may choose to ease him back in for their first two regular season games against UMKC and Charleston, but will need Shamet at full-go when the team hits the road for a matchup against California on Nov. 20.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet (foot) will not be fully cleared to practice until early November, CBS Sports reports.

Shamet missed the majority of the 2015-16 season with a foot injury, so there should be some concern about the redshirt sophomore's availability going forward. He had surgery in late July and will be an important piece for coach Gregg Marshall if he can regain his health. If Shamet is not ready for the season, Austin Reaves could get more playing time.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet broke his foot and will have surgery on Monday, Matt Norlander of CBS Sports reports.

This is Shamet's second foot injury of his career, but there is hope that he'll be able to start the season as originally expected. He'll be on crutches for 6-to-8 weeks before returning to action. Shamet was the Shockers second-leading scorer last season with 11.2 PPG and converted 44.6 percent of his three-pointers.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Shamet had a game-high 20 points (7-14 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 4-5 FT) across 34 minutes in Sunday's NCAA Tournament loss to Kentucky.

Shamet's second-year campaign with the Shockers was far from disappointing, as the 20-year-old averaged two three-pointers made per contest, converting them at a 44.6 percent clip. Following his redshirt season, Shamet really stepped up big as a starter, finishing the year as the team's second-leading scorer at 11.2 PPG. It may not have been enough to lead the underseeded Shockers to the Sweet Sixteen, but he'll have plenty more chances to play under the spotlight, as Wichita State will return all five starters in 2017-18.
