RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2017-18

Subscribe now to see our 2017-18 outlook.

2016-17

Kinkaid is locked into the backup job behind Corey Schneider, although he represents a sizeable downgrade in net anytime heís called upon. The 27-year-old netminder has amassed an uninspiring 2.71 GAA and .909 save percentage while serving as New Jerseyís No. 2 netminder over the past two seasons; he has almost no chance of overtaking Schneider unless injury is involved.

2015-16

Kinkaid didnít see much action behind workhorse Cory Schneider last season, but when he did, he was up to the task, posting a respectable 6-5-4 record to accompany his .915 save percentage. Despite having only 20 NHL games under his belt, Kinkaid is the clear-cut backup in New Jersey, and should be perfectly serviceable so long as he's not needed for a long stretch of action in the event of a Schneider injury. Given the fact Schneider played 69 games last season and figures to rank among the league leaders in appearances again, itís unlikely you would draft Kinkaid in 2015-16, but may represent a worthy streaming choice against some of the dregs of the league.

2014-15

One of several younger netminders in New Jerseyís system, Kinkaid will battle Scott Clemmensen for the teamís backup role behind Cory Schneider. The young goalie grabbed 24 wins in the AHL last season with a 2.29 goals-against average and should see a handful of starts in the NHL should he secure the teamís No. 2 role.

2013-14

Kinkaid is one of several goaltenders in the team's system who saw his potential role within the organization change when the Devils acquired Cory Schneider on Draft Day. With Schneider on board, Kinkaid and Scott Wedgewood will be vying for AHL starts and the right to be Schneider's backup in several years time. Kinkaid's numbers in the AHL could have been stronger with a .905 save percentage and a 2.72 goals-against average and will need to improve. Kinkaid saw just 26 minutes of NHL action last season in his call-up.

2012-13

One of several young netminders in the Devilsí organization vying for the mantle of heir apparent to Martin Brodeur, Kinkaid posted a 17-20-3 record, including three shutouts, with AHL Albany last season. Kinkaid will likely spend 2012-13 in the AHL ... barring any injuries to the Devilsí top duo of Martin Brodeur and Johan Hedberg. He'll battle Jeff Frazee and possibly Scott Wedgewood for playing time in the minors.

2011-12

After a strong career at Union College, Kinkaid inked an entry-level deal with New Jersey in April of 2011. Expect him to start the season in the minors with several netminders ahead of him on the depth chart.
