English Premier League (EPL)

Major League Soccer (MLS)

Ike Opara    D    Sporting Kansas City
Opara (hamstring) didn't play Saturday against New York Red Bulls.

Fantasy Analysis

Opara suffered the injury July 8 against Toronto and his inability to practice at full speed lead to his exclusion from the match. Emiliano Amor was his replacement Saturday and should continue to be until Opara returns.
Paxton Pomykal    M    FC Dallas
Pomykal was called up to the United States U-20 national team camp that runs until July 22. As a result, he will likely miss the July 21 match against Houston.

Fantasy Analysis

Pomykal has four appearances (one start) this season and is unlikely to make a big fantasy impact if absent.
Liam Ridgewell    D    Portland Timbers
Ridgewell didn't travel to the LAFC match on Sunday with a "left lower leg knock", according to Jamie Goldberg of The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

Ridgewell hasn't played since the beginning of May but will return to the squad soon. Lawrence Olum kept the clean sheet Sunday and seems to be the current replacement at center-back.
Giles Barnes    F/M    Colorado Rapids
Barnes took two shots before exiting the match in the 52nd minutes with an apparent ankle injury.

Fantasy Analysis

Barnes was immediately inserted into the starting lineup just one day after signing with the team. After showing flashes of his attacking prowess, he hobbled off with what looked like an ankle injury. We'll know in the coming days if he's forced to miss time with the injury, but it's clear that when he's healthy he's going to be given an opportunity in the attack.
Lee Nguyen    M    Los Angeles Football Club
Nguyen was sent off in the 84th minute of Sunday's goalless draw with the Timbers.

Fantasy Analysis

Nguyen received a straight red card when his lunging challenge caught an opposing player just below the knee. The call appeared to be briefly reviewed by the referee, who then decided to stick with his initial decision. Nguyen will be suspended for next week's fixture with Minnesota.
Jordan McCrary    D    Seattle Sounders FC
McCrary was sent off for a second yellow card foul in the 63rd minute of Sunday's match with Atlanta United.

Fantasy Analysis

McCrary committed a second rash challenge, giving the ref no choice but to show a second yellow card. He'll miss the July 21 match against Vancouver Whitecaps with his suspension.
Drew Conner    M/D    Chicago Fire
Conner was sent off in the 70th minute of Saturday's 3-1 loss to FC Dallas.

Fantasy Analysis

Conner earned a yellow card in the 39th minute and was given his marching orders for a late challenge in the 70th. He will be suspended for next wee's fixture with Toronto FC.
Roman Torres    D    Seattle Sounders FC
Torres (ankle) will miss Sunday's match with Atlanta, Matt Pentz of the Athletic reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Torres suffered the injury while playing for Panama in the World Cup, which hasn't quite healed up and will keep him on the sideline. It's unclear what his return timetable is at this point.
Clint Dempsey    F/M    Seattle Sounders FC
Dempsey will miss Sunday's match with Atlanta due to a sore groin, Matt Pentz of the Athletic reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Dempsey and Roman Torres (ankle) didn't travel with the team as they work through their respective injuries. Seattle will be forced to rely on Nicolas Lodeiro as their main attacking option with Dempsey sidelined.
Khiry Shelton    F    Sporting Kansas City
Shelton underwent succesful surgery to repair a torn meniscus and MCL in his right knee and will be out two-three months.

Fantasy Analysis

Shelton had been disappointing with two goals from 16 league appearances. This comes even with SKC on track to set a new regular season scoring record. With Shelton out, Diego Rubio is set to absorb the minutes first but Felipe Gutierrez is a good option to pick once he returns from his groin injury.
Victor Vazquez    F/M    Toronto FC
Vazquez (quad) trained fully Thursday, according to Gareth Wheeler of TSN. His status is still questionable to play Saturday against Orlando City.

Fantasy Analysis

Vazquez has been out for a couple of weeks with a quad issue and has been missed in attack. Without him, TFC are winless and continually fall behind in matches unable to finish their chances. Vazquez should be able to make a full return July 21 against Chicago if he doesn't receive any setbacks.
Chris Mavinga    D    Toronto FC
Mavinga (hamstring) trained fully Thursday according to Gareth Wheeler of TSN. He's questionable to feature Saturday against Orlando.

Fantasy Analysis

Mavinga has been out since the end of May and would be a welcome return to a backline beset with injuries in recent weeks. Look for a full return July 21 against Chicago.
Kevin Ellis    D    Chicago Fire
Ellis was forced to exit in the 13th minute of Wednesday's match with Philadelphia due to an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Analysis

Ellis was replaced by winger Elliot Collier and a formation adjustment helped to fill the gap. It was an unfortunate moment for Ellis, who came off a two-assist performance in his last match against Vancouver. It does not look like Ellis will miss a lot of time with this knock, but he is likely questionable to feature against FC Dallas on Saturday.
Jonathan Spector    D    Orlando City SC
Spector missed training Tuesday with a hamstring injury, according to Jordan Culver of prosoccerusa.com.

Fantasy Analysis

Spector left early in their last match against LAFC and has evidently suffered a more serious injury. If he is unable to play, Chris Schuler is a potential replacement Saturday against Toronto.
Lamine Sane    D    Orlando City SC
Sane (quad) missed training Tuesday, according to Jordan Culver of prosoccerusa.com.

Fantasy Analysis

Sane missed the LAFC match last Sunday with this injury and has yet to fully recover. Amro Tarek is the likely starter if the seemingly injury-prone Sane can't play.
Scott Sutter    D    Orlando City SC
Sutter (thigh) trained separately from the team Tuesday, according to Jordan Culver of prosoccerusa.com.

Fantasy Analysis

Sutter missed their last match against LAFC with this injury but is showing signs of steady improvement. He is not the strongest fantasy choice with one assist in five matches on the season but is a likely starter if healthy Saturday against Toronto
David Horst    D    Real Salt Lake
Horst will miss the rest of the 2018 season after tearing his Achilles, according to Christopher Kamrani of the Salt Lake Tribune. Horst suffered the injury while playing with the USL affiliate of RSL.

Fantasy Analysis

Horst has been a backup defender all season and didn't figure to make an impact in fantasy or any matches. He does add to a long list of major injuries that will not help the successes of RSL.
Florian Valot    M    New York Red Bulls
Valot tore his left ACL during training Thursday, his team announced on their website Sunday. He's set to miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Analysis

Valot has been a reasonably productive midfielder this season with three goals and four assists. However, he adds to the woes of NYRB after manager Jesse Marsch departed last week. Look for the team to rely even more on Kaku for chance creation and Alex Muyl could take Valot's place in the formation going forward.
Cristian Higuita    M    Orlando City SC
Higuita didn't play Saturday against LAFC due to an adductor injury, according to Jordan Culver of proscoccerusa.com.

Fantasy Analysis

Higuita has missed almost a month of action due to falling down the depth chart and lack of fitness. He's a good candidate to return in the home match against Toronto on Saturday.
Kendall Waston    D    Vancouver Whitecaps FC
Waston (groin) didn't play Saturday against Chicago.

Fantasy Analysis

Waston hurt himself July 1 in his first match back from World Cup duty and has since missed his first full match. He was replaced by Jose Aja in the starting lineup, and Waston will hope to regain his fitness for the July 14 match against DC United.
Auro    M/D    Toronto FC
Auro (undisclosed) didn't play in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Minnesota.

Fantasy Analysis

Auro was hurt a couple of weeks ago and has been unable to fully recover. Gregory van der Wiel and Nico Hasler are options at right back in the coming matches with Auro out.
Cristian Colman    F    FC Dallas
Colman didn't play Wednesday against Atlanta.

Fantasy Analysis

Colman has been out for all of June and there seems to be no end in sight. Roland Lamah deputized at forward Wednesday and played well enough to get more starts at forward.
Jason Hernandez    D    Toronto FC
Hernandez (hamstring) didn't play against Minnesota on Wednesday.

Fantasy Analysis

Hernandez hurt himself July 1 and has been unable to get fully fit. Justin Morrow got a start at center back and will likely have to do so again Saturday against Sporting KC.
Cristian Penilla    F    New England Revolution
Penilla took four shots, sent in four crosses and scored twice in Saturday's 3-2 win over D.C. United.

Fantasy Analysis

Penilla was a menace on the attacking end all night and ultimately bagged the game winner from a late penalty kick. He's up to eight goals and five assists on the season and he's one of the top fantasy weapons out of the Revolution camp.
Chris Tierney    D    New England Revolution
Tierney (knee) underwent successful surgery to repair a torn ACL on Thursday.

Fantasy Analysis

Tierney suffered the injury in late May and will now make the long comeback from a major knee operation. He has a good chance to return for the beginning of next season if everything goes according to plan.
Cristian Lobato    M/D    Sporting Kansas City
Lobato has been ruled out of Saturday's match with knee tendinitis, Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Lobato hasn't been a prominent starter this season and likely won't hurt the starting XI all that much, though his absence does hurt the midfield depth heading into Saturday's match.
Jimmy Medranda    M/D    Sporting Kansas City
Medranda (knee) has been ruled out of Saturday's match with Montreal, Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Medranda continues to work through swelling that will keep him out for over a month. Jaylin Lindsey started at left-back in last Saturday's 3-2 win over Houston and could do so again with Medranda sidelined. Seth Sinovic is also an option at left-back.
Isaac Angking    M    New England Revolution
Angking is nearing a return to action after partaking in practice in recent weeks.

Fantasy Analysis

Angking has been out since preseason after falling ill, but now the homegrown player is almost ready to contribute. Given the team's habit of playing their academy graduates, Angking could get minutes sooner rather than later.
Darlington Nagbe    M    Atlanta United
Nagbe is likely out for the next 2-3 months after injuring his right abductor Sunday against Portland, according to Doug Roberson of the AJC.

Fantasy Analysis

Nagbe was recently voted to the All Star game to be played in Atlanta, but now is most likely to return just before the playoffs. Luckily for Atlanta, there are a few options at their disposal, including Julian Gressel or Kevin Kratz to play in defensive midfield with Nagbe out.
Michael de Leeuw    F/M    Chicago Fire
De Leeuw (ACL) returned to training Tuesday, according to Orrin Schwarz of The Daily Herald.

Fantasy Analysis

De Leeuw tore his ACL last fall and is finally returning after the forced absence. He could see the field later in the season with Chicago fighting for playoff positioning.
Marco Donadel    M/D    Montreal Impact
Donadel (strain) trained alone Tuesday, according to Joey Alfieri of TSN. He'll start training with the team next week.

Fantasy Analysis

Donadel has made just two appearances this season and none since May 21. He might find it hard to break into the team when healthy due to the recent success of Rod Fanni, Rudy Camacho and friends.
